Post X 3/23[Fri] Back Alley and Deja Voodoo at Whiskey Junction
FRIDAY MARCH 23RD

BACK ALLEY and DEJA VOODOO at WHISKEY JUNCTION

Back Alley once again brings our butt-whoopin', shot takin', head-bangin', beer-chuggin' rock show back to Whiskey Junction for a raucus evening of rock! That's a lot of rock, but if that weren't enough this show has a great warmup act in Deja Voodoo that will get things rollin' right away.

Expect to hear some fantastic local musicians offer up their renditions of classic songs. Back Alley plays a huge variety of artists including stuff like Billy Idol, Marshall Tucker, Stone Temple Pilots, Creedence Clearwater Revival, Poison, Rolling Stones, Nine Inch Nails, Cameo, The Black Keys, Van Halen, Molly Hatchet, Matthew Sweet, Bad Company and so much more I couldn't list it all if I tried. We are full of surprises and always try to brighten your day... or at least drown your day in booze.

The show begins at 9pm and will be rockin' all night. No cover charge, ages 21+ only.

I detect a note of sarcasm- haha.

Sorry its not dark enough for ya... we aim to please and adjust the set based on what kind of audience we're playing to, but that being said we try to cover a lot of different genres so there will be something for everybody.

Hey whaddya know- despite the naysayers predictions this was a packed show and was a ton of fun! I was hoping one of these cowards would have the balls to show up, but sadly no. That's ok, everyone had a great time without them

seriously though, thanks to everyone that came out and had fun with us. We will do it again soon!

i guess i'm the only naysayer on this one.

i don't care for cover bands. i've seen a bunch of em. "talented" or not, they're all just cover bands. and i've seen quite a few packed houses for shit cover bands - hello mayslacks - so i can't say i put a lot of stock in that as any sort of metric. people listen to cover bands because they play familiar, easy to digest pablum. they're the mcdonalds of rock n roll.

i like autonomy, tho!

You nailed it. And besides that, I don't get why anyone would post these sorts of shows on a board that's supposed to be a "dark" music site. It's the complete opposite of dark music.

I understand your dislike of cover bands and can appreciate your opinion. I have been a writer and performer of original music my entire adult life, however it is a rigged game with very little financial reward for the vast majority of artists out there. Performing cover music allows me to fund my own music while keeping my chops sharp in the process. It also keeps me in front of my fans when I'm between projects making for seamless transitions - and is a lot of fun, surprisingly.

I used to think there was no crossover- that people who liked original music went to see that, and those who like cover bands go to see that. It turns out that isn't true. Now when I do something original I find that a lot of my fans from my work with Back Alley will come to see me doing something different. As it turns out, there is a TON of crossover. Lots of people are just music fans, and they don't differentiate at all. Some people admire your talent so much they'd turn out to see you sing the phone book.

I am not a rich man and I have to do what has to be done to realize my musical goals. If I didn't think this cover band had a little something more to offer than most, I wouldn't be doing it. I happen to love these guys and they are all good musicians in their own right so there is no way I am going to apologize for playing songs I like with people I love to fans I adore for money I need.

You mean dark like the Rollergirls? The burlesque shows? The gay bar dance nights?

Puh-leez

I love all of the above but wouldn't classify them as 'dark' either. They are cool and fun and I have absolutely no problem with them being promoted here. in fact, I'm glad they are!

I've been posting here for many years and know many of the people on this board personally. I've played with many of the bands that post their shows here. My guitarist was in Morticia for goshsakes- how gothy is that for you? But look, I don't need to list my goth credentials to impress you. The bottom line is I am a part of this message board community and just because some old fart doesn't like a cover band he's never seen that doesn't mean the shows can't be promoted here.

Hey guys-

I know Zom and what's-his-face won't be happy to hear this but we are coming back to Whiskey Junction this Saturday night! Stop on out and have a great time on the cheap with a killer cover band.

Apparently the last show was such a success that they wanted us back right away. So don't listen to the haters and wannabes that badmouth Back Alley- we're a good bunch of guys who work our butts off so you can forget your week and have a little fun.

Oh yeah, and I forgot to mention - THIS SATURDAY NIGHT ... NO COVER!

Get in free, drink, rock and be merry. They even have an extra lot they'll let you leave your car in overnight if you have too many and can't drive. Super nice folks down there at Whiskey Junciton.
