What are the odds of this selling out? It's looking more and more like I won't be able to get advance tickets. Freakin' bills and unexpected emergency expenses...

I don't think I have ever seen a show sell out at Ground Zero. Even with the balcony closed Mark has allowed me to sell 1000 tickets. Even LOA didn't do that much (close though). This show won't sell out.

Who's going on first? I know that the last time De/visio was here the show was way early and ended at like 10:00pm. And some bastard complained about the post show Dj set. I DO Not want to miss Mesh but I know I won't be there right at 8.

Anyone know what bands & what times?

It is not my intention to miss amy of them and I don't want to install a flux capacitor to see mesh.

I don't think you missed them. ;)

Line-up was
Somegirl
Iris
De/Vision
Mesh

And seriously, once again I am astounded (though I shouldn't be) at Minneapolitans. Seriously, leaving after De/Vision and not even seeing Mesh? Really? Your loss, big time.

I'm super sad that I missed this. The last comment though got me wondering though: what was the stage setup like? How did they use their laptops live? What live elements WERE there along with the computer? As an electronic musician for whom using a laptop isn't really feasibly optional, I'd really love to hear some perspectives on what these bands "brought" to their live show and which parts didn't work, so that when we play GZ in 21 days we can at least try to do something differently.

thoughts?

Yeah, De/Vision wasn't much of a "show", but they sounded good. (Reportedly, they use a Sony PSP for playback of the drums rather than a laptop; figured you'd get a kick out of that)

If you're bored by laptop bands, I sure as hell hope you were among the (...half?)* that stayed for Mesh, because they were all playing f'real.

* I share laserbitch's astounditude about how many people bailed early. Mesh flew all the way from friggin' England to perform for us. They'd been up for 24 hours straight and still performed their hearts out.
What, you gotta be up early for work Friday morning? You can't do your job tired a couple days a year, or drink some damn coffee? Cripes.
(But oh well, at least you came out for the show at all, so I can't be too harsh. And Iris was my personal favorite.)

psp is pretty cool. i've got that korg ds-10 that we (thosquanta OR trapezoids, who knows) may end up using for backing one day.

Wow, that was a great show last night! It is rare for me to go to a show and really like all of the bands playing. The sound mixing at GZ seemed spot on too. I was especially impressed with Iris and De/Vision. I had last seen De/Vision with Seabound but they sounded better this time around IMHO. I liked Iris before this show, but I have an even better appreciation for them after seeing them live. Iris seemed genuinely excited to be up there playing last night.

I was a bit surprised how GZ emptied out after De/Vision played since Mesh is such a great band. Yeah, Mesh sure did a good job considering how they had some serious jet lag. Thanks to everyone that made this show happen!

Also, De/Vision was the only "laptop" band. Iris had a few lappies, a few synths, and a few guitars (GO NEDLY!). The unplugged version of "Annie, Would I Lie To You" was definitely amazing and fun.

What I love about Iris, De/Vision, and Mesh is that they had really great stage presence. I can only imagine what Mesh would have been like had they not been so freakin' tired.

I was extremely impressed by Mesh's vocals. They have 3 really great singers in that band. Either of the two guys doing the backing vocals could front their own band and do it very, very well. Lots of harmonies, including some 3 part harmonies. It is unusual these days to have that many talented singers in one band and I definitely appreciated it. I also dug their hollow body guitars. Wasn't expecting that! I'm not a huge fan of Mesh's work, but they were clearly a polished and pro band. They were the highlight for me.

If anyone has photos, videos or reviews to share, we'd love it if you'd post links on the Kilted Farmer Facebook page:

http://www.facebook.com/kiltedfarmer

Kether....

De/Vision was just the two guys. The lead singer was out front dancing and the other guy (sorry I don't know names) was set back and stage left behind 3 laptops and a keyboard. There may have been other equipment but that was what I saw.

Interesting to hear that Mesh had "good vocals" considering that their vocals are the weakest aspect of the recorded music and the main reason I dislike them. I've always found them to be extremely sloppy and inconsistent.

De/Vision is Steffen (singer) and Thomas (laptop/synth).

Holy crap. Devil, I guess I'm wondering why you think the vocals are weak. Is it the actual singing part? The WAY Mark sings? Because on the albums AND on stage, he belts out and hits his notes and melodies with precision. His vocals are a HUGE piece of the passion of the music, and so are the other gentleman who were singing (I'm assuming they were Richard and Geoff, but I sadly couldn't tell you who was who). Their set was AMAZING, and I loved the video-show going on behind them. Their album artwork has always been arty, and I wonder where that comes from - within the band or without. Maybe it's a British thing? (Seriously, Bauhaus.)

Mesh have been around for YEARS! I actually first found their cds at one of the American Cancer Society's large garage sales, oh, probably 8-9 years ago. Their biggest problem has been a lack of accessibility to the US. Until recently, their stuff was mainly Import Only, at $40 an album. Maybe THAT is why no one has really heard of them.

If you'd like, I'll post a video or two and apply commentary, minute by minute, of all the sour notes that are hit. And it isn't just the vocals. Their music is sloppy all the way around. It's a mess. I guess I don't understand how anyone with even the slightest experience with music can't hear it.

Except I don't your experience with music. I also don't like such savory bands as Anal Cunt and the like. I think it's just a fact that you and I look for different things in our aural experiences.

Like I've said before, if I like it, I can count on you to not and vice versa. ;)

actually, i enjoyed the show all around - and stayed for the full duration.
it was kind of nice after everyone left though as it was easy to be right up next to the stage without anyone smashed right up next to you.
the laptop thing kind of bothered me a bit too but it seemed like Thomas was at least making it look like he was playing the controller even if he wasn't actually do so. i think it's just that the less things that are going on when the band is performing on the stage (less people in the band, less overall movement, lack of peripheral media/banners, etc), it makes the laptop more noticeable because it is then a greater percentage of the overall performance and makes the performance seem less so. oh well, i enjoyed it anyway and would gladly go see them again.
all in all a good show.
