Overall, I've enjoyed this night. It's a fun in-and-out experience. I show up right before 10pm, I get a bit drunk, I hear 3-5 songs in a row that I want to throw down some moves to, and I'm home before 1230. Most of the music is tolerable, though it'd be nice to hear some newer dancier noisie stuff like some ESA, Xotox, Endif, maybe some AlterDerRuine, or Uberbyte (once it comes out).

Are the attendance figures still holding up for this? I've been trying to make it the past few weeks but, y'know, I just had a l'il devil and that makes it difficult to go...anywhere. This seems like a really great club night that should survive.

Attendance figures seem to have dropped off. But it seems to be doing alright. I typically leave around midnight because the music gets a bit less tasteful, so I don't know if more people show up after that.

Hey, in case nobody caught the post Lexi put in the thread for the show, we will be giving away 2 pairs of tickets for the Imperative Reaction/[:SITD:] show this evening at Chamber. We'll be doing the first drawing around midnight, and the second one around 1:00am. So if you want a chance to win, just show up before 12:30 to enter the drawing!!!

So, in which issue of vita.mn can we expect to see the next butchering-by-the-press of the goth scene?

They're too busy covering all the "indie" artists & shitty boho chic fashion shows to care about our local scene.

There was a photographer there last Thursday. :-?

Oh yeah, for the n00bs who weren't around for the previous butchering, this is how I remember it going:
Quote:
Citypages "journalist" at interview: So, what are some common misconceptions about goths?

Darksider#27133 reply: That we drink blood and hang out in graveyards all the time.

...time passes...

Citypages article: According to Darksider#27133, goths "drink blood and hang out in graveyards all the time".

Mmm hmm, I flash back to that anytime I hear about someone being willing to talk to the press.

How often do people with PhDs in communications need to worry about their advertising budget and publicity, anyway? (Or are they just telling YOU not to speak to the media?)

I don't think I understand you question.

But the reason you never speak to the media, is that they'll always make you look foolish. Even if the journalist that's covering you is sympathetic, and doesn't want to be exploitive, it still comes out poorly. That's just a part of being represented in mass-media.

Ya-ha, they shouted it out over the PA system last Thursday.

And this week's (10/16) guest spot will be filled by DJ Monstergott.

W00TZ3Z! More barely-awake Friday-afters in my future!

no, I don't think you understand my question. publicity for a business is a slightly different field than it is for, say, a political or academic field in general. if Chamber is being run as a business, even somewhat mocking press will expose it to a wider audience without costing hundreds or thousands of dollars of operating capital.

I want to go.
I think, maybe, I actually can, too...

Maybe someone who knows all the answers should get this added to the International Goth Club list... http://www.vamp.org/Gothic/clublist.html ...? And, it looks like some of the other entries for events in our fair cities need some updating.

It's not just the TC entries; even the Denver,CO listings haven't been updated since '05-'06. I haven't poked around vamp.org to see whether the rest of the site is still "active" or not...

I think it still updates, sometimes, but it is dependent on people actually providing accurate information.

I've tried updating that several times in the last three years. It's pretty sporadic. So it goes with volunteer sites.

Looking forward to going to Chamber tonight.
Hope to see some of you out there.
And if any of the DJ's are paying attention- I wanna hear some old skool industrial please.
Haven't heard much of the good oldies spun in a long time.

Ya, we are sooo off topic...

Well, I know that it has been said before, but it is a good-looking space, and it sounded good, too. It was the first time I'd been there, and it was a little confusing on the way in - I did have to ask for directions to the basement : P There is a bewildering profusion of doors in that place, though now that I know better which ones I'm looking for, I won't feel quite so lost. I liked that the title & artist for each song was shown on the video screens.

Yeah, it's pretty goofy that the best route is through a door that's actually marked as the entrance to a yoga studio(!).

I think it'd be cool to run an auxiliary speaker out to the sidewalk area; the noobs could follow their ears once they got close, the sidewalk-smokers could hear what they were missing, and heck, it might even attract some passersby.

Also, in case you attended their awesome costume parties of years past and would like a chance to catch up with them, Matt and Sharon Feigal are visiting from Amsterdam and say they'll turn up at Chamber this week.

Liked the musicks A LOT tonight. Even swayed a bit to Gary Numan. Very glad Abbs and I went out. Thanks, Ricky, for indulging my attempt at sociability. One of these years I'll get it right, and then I'll be charming. *tongue-sticking-out emoticon*

Last night, I would've much rather been over with you guys instead of dodging bullets ala police... :-?

We're going to take a night off of the Brass Rail and come visit sometime soon...

Are you planning Chamber on Christmas (not the spookiest of holidays, but I don't think there is much going on event-wise)? If so, we'll drag our bar over. :P

Cheers!

Is Chamber still on for tonight...New Years Day? I'm hoping so. Some of us are still down for going out despite the fact that last night was New Years Eve. Also, some of us have tomorrow off.

NO. (Hope you see this in time!)

I was hoping so too, but dv8 said it's not going on tonight when I asked yesterday night.

Post All n' all....sounds like Chamber is pleasing so far......
I'm an old Goth.....my fiance is a young goth....together we make a real nice bloody scab. We haven't had much opportunity to go out for pleasure other than to hangout with non gothic friends at this n' that type of watering holes. I'm a band manager and booking agent so, I'm out at different venues for work and not pleasure but a friend that works at the Eagle kept telling us we needed to check out Chamber. This thursday is the night. I came to this forum to see what people had to say about the night. I don't usually join forums, but I had to say, the reading of this thread was really helpful to get some insight into the night. The thread started out talking about how the DJ took too many requests.....then that was corrected....er adjusted. Now, seems everyone is pretty happy. It's great to see that DV8 listened, responded and participated in the conversation....kudos! We are looking forward to checking it all out. I hope to hear a variety. I dig my old VNV Nation but, understand people want variety....I'm more than curious to see how it all pans out.

Get there early (9pm) for maximum variety.
It ain't all good, mind you (Portishead and other undanceable stuff), but it's wide-spectrum, and often decent darksiderish lounge music.
