Post X [Thu] Chamber @ The Bolt Underground, 10pm [18+] $0
||MODERATOR NOTE: flyer image is outdated. There is now NO cover ever, and doors open at 10pm.

Thursday, August 21st, the Chamber door opens...

Image

A new Goth/Industrial night at a new venue! (and one of the sexiest clubs I've seen in Mpls.)
Dress up in your finest dark attire, and come down to help us celebrate our opening night!
There will be no cover on the 21st, so everyone can come down and check it out & see what they think.

We are very excited with The Bolt Underground for giving us this opportunity, and are hoping to make this place a new home on Thursdays for the darksider community.
The venue is well decorated, clean, and the sound and lighting is fantastic! Also, the owner & staff are awesome folks and are very thrilled about a goth/industrial night starting at their club. They have a well stocked bar & taps, and are very affordable.

This night is still a work in progress, so we are still brainstorming ideas & special events for the future, so come down & check it out & tell us what you think!
We should hopefully have the website and myspace profile online soon too, so stay tuned.

Here's all the info for the night:

Name : Chamber
Night : Every Thursday
Venue : The Bolt Underground
Address : 501 Washington Ave. S. Downtown Minneapolis, MN 55415
Cover : No cover 9pm-10pm, $5 after 10pm (but free all night for our opening night!)
Time : 9:00pm - 2:30am
Age : 18+
DJs : dv8, Overdrive, & Guests
Music : Requests, New Releases, & Old school classics that just don't seem to get played anymore.
Drink Specials : $2.00 MGDs all night (we'll see if we can work out others in the future.)
Contact : chambermpls@gmail.com

We put this night together for all of us, everyone's suggestions are welcome!

**MODERATOR NOTE:

Chamber is proud to announce the following 2 changes.

1) Starting this month (March) we will be moving Chamber from Thursday
to Friday the 4th week of every month. We know this may be a little
confusing, but we were given the opportunity to test out Friday
nights, and we couldn't pass this opportunity up. We hope this will
give several people that normally can’t make it on Thursdays a chance
to come out.
Our first 4th Friday will be March 26th. We hope to see many of you there.

Upcoming 4th Friday dates:
March 26
April 23
May 28
June 25

2) We are dropping our regular cover to $3 (and we are keeping the first hour
free) -- effective immediately.*

*Subject to change for special events.

Upcoming Chamber schedule:
March 11 (Thursday) - Guest DJ Overdrive
March 18 (Thursday) - 80's Night (brought back to you by popular demand)
March 26th (Friday) - first 4th Friday!!!
April 1 (Thursday) - guilty pleasures night

Wait? is this the place that's attached to Eagle? He finally opened it?

We (well it was Sean, formely of LL, who's friends with the owner) were in talks about doing something there. Though as a result of delay of its opening (or renovating), we forgot all about it.

Look forward to see what you do with this night, good luck. Let me know if you need any assistance in any shape or form.

We are going to get a few nights under our belt first before we start making any final decisions on special events type stuff. But that is something we are working on. They DO have a good sized stage, but no front of house gear or stage lights as of yet. I'll keep you posted though!

Man, that's just begging for gun puns.

Go down the basement of the Eagle to have someone unload their bolt into your chamber?

Finally, it's here, TONIGHT!!! I hope to see most of you there tonight for our kick off night! Stop down & give us your feedback, we'd love to hear ideas/likes & dislikes of the place. We really do want to turn this place into somewhere people enjoy going to!

Our main site is still in development, and myspace has been a freak about creating new profiles. Hopefully it will be resolved sometime this week.

I have been in the Minneapolis Eagle exactly once, on a pub crawl. Their website has a dress code, and their reviews on google maps indicate that at least some of the time that's taken pretty seriously. Do we also need to be aware of a dress code for The Chamber?

I'm guessing not. I haven't heard anything to that end. I think dressing to go to an industrial/darkwave club night meets code. :-)

Umm, yeah, I think we're pretty safe.
The "dress code" basically says if you look like one of the Village People, you're in; but if you look like a yuppie or a lawyer, you're still in, but they'll give you the stinkeye.

Great fun! Love the space. There were at least a dozen people I had never seen before at all, and several I see almost never.

Of the few complainings I heard, nearly all boiled down to either "that's not what I would have played" or "wow, that's too late for me." The requests clipboard seems to be working on the former. I wonder if it would benefit from opening before 9 with swirlygoth music for folks who need to be in bed before 11.

i had a great time. i would have preferred no requests though. people should have just let the DJs be for the first night. i would prefer all nights actually. no offense, but whoevers still requesting old rammstein & vnv nation needs to be beach slapped.

It was a fun night, I just wish Devil could hold his liquor.

I was a bit surprised by the music, not in a good or bad way, I was just expecting it to be much crunchier

I would agree that "Du Hast" should be permanently retired and never spoken of again.

Good times. Great venue. And I hold my liquor just fine.

Requests clipboard? I didn't even see it.

I thought there was an awful lot of OLD stuff played (holy Industrial Strength Sunday flashback, Batman!), which is perfectly okay as long as I don't hear the SAME old stuff next week. If the request clipboard is to blame, guess I can't fault the DJ's anyway.
My advice though, as someone who attends dance nights a LOT (and gets bored and annoyed hearing the exact same sh1t every week), is don't be afraid to outright ignore/reject requests for songs that you'd played recently.

Fun friggin' night! I was planning to leave early (it's a weeknight!) but ended up shutting the place down!
And I love the song subtitles on the projection screen!

My only complaint is that the basement floor is as hard as GZ's, and as irregular and lumpy as Saloon's. Kinda the worst of both worlds. So if you jump around a lot, get there early and stake out one of the "flat spots" for yourself, to make sure you don't twist an ankle and then bust your head open. Or, just get over your fear of looking like a douche and go dance on the elevated wooden "stage" instead, which is an AWESOME surface that you can literally feel the bass through!

P.S. 2nd floor-speaker from the left was popping quite a bit at high volumes.

A big gay bronze italian super hero saved my life last night.

Though I'll second the comment on the no-more-requests. More DJs, less requests.

Man, why is everyone picking on Du Hast? Yeah, it's an antique, but so were the Apop, P.Murphy, Siouxie, and the three(?) Covenant songs that got spun!

I was kinda hoping that the first night's setlist was a blast-from-the-past retrospective of dance nights gone by, as opposed to... well, falling into the same rut <i>right off the bat</i>...
I guess we'll find out tonight!

F*cking awesome! Considerably better playlist than opening night last week. A sh1t-ton of new/different[*] stuff, and much crunchier overall.

[*] By "different", I mean stuff I'd never heard in a club before, but not a recent release. For example, I think I recognized "Der Neue Gott" by OOMPH! from a label compilation CD I picked up sometime in the previous millenium, but I'm sure it was "new" to most clubgoers!

And I was shocked and impressed, not just that the DJ's had Contagion available, but played it, AND it didn't even clear the dancefloor!

I would've danced more, but my feet were sore and I had to save some legs for Monstergott's guest set tonight.

Hmmm... "Contagion," the industrial band you'll find in every used CD store in Minneapolis.

But seriously, it'd be nice to see some playlists.

Heh, well Sielwolf was my first choice, but I figured I should make a less-obscure "alternate request" just in case.

The playlists are okay, but I'd like to see more 'N's and less 'V's.

OMG! They played a different song by Wolfsheim, AND a different song by Beborn Beton, on the SAME night, and NOT back-to-back!
And believe it or not, the apocalypse DIDN'T happen!!!
So to all the other DJs out there who were afraid to try it, rest easy, your fears were ill-conceived.

Damn weeknights, though, I had to slink out early to avoid being an actual zombie at tonight's Zombie-themed Next Element.
