I can't believe I am the first person to post this
Just another example of maximizing profits instead of maximizing the concert experience for the customer
You can't run a nightclub like one of your thousands of properties

They're booking almost exclusively shitty bands so good luck with that.
From what I've heard from people who were silly enough to see Jane's Addiction there is that it's a horrible experience.

As if YOU would know a shitty band if it crawled up your ass and died there. Leave it to you to continue defending the pathetic state of affairs the music industry is in and blame the bands. Complaining that 'bands such nowadays' is such a stupid way to explain away everything.

I can't believe you are the only person surprised by this. It has been trending this way for decades and is so integrated in to our society now that I am stunned that it has gone under your radar.

Do you think a corporate entity with the right business plan COULD pull it off to your satisfaction?

Dude, you waste away your days playing lame covers. "Back Alley" indeed. The bitterness you show for not being able to make anyone pay attention to your "original" music is really starting to become apparent. Keep trying though, maybe this next silly project will get you out of the bowling alley scene and into New Band Night somewhere.

Yes, I do remember making that comment
Wait, no I didn't because I DIDN'T
I wrote that I was surprised to be the first person to post this particular issue (all the way down here in Dallas I might add)
Corporations do things correctly all the time and we take it for granted
It's only when they let their greed get in the way of consideration for the customer
Obviously, I am not privy to the terms of the contract but I am guessing Jane's Addiction asked for an assload of money
I am also guessing the management oversold tickets so that they wouldn't lose money on the show

BTW
I am not a big fan of Zom's asthetic judgements when it comes to discussing music but I am willing to bet he has the advantage when it comes to experience in the music business
How many places have you toured?
How many bands have you recorded?

So... is that a yes? A corporate club could work in your opinion? Don't get so defensive, I'm just asking for your opinion man.

Wow, somebody must've sh*t in your cereal this morning... I guess you didn't read my post. I said that Zom wouldn't know a good band if it crawled up his ass and died there. That is not a commentary on his touring days.

You are as jaded about the state of the music industry as anyone I know, so spare me. You also know I've been playing/writing/recording/performing music my entire life so I certainly don't need to dignify those last two questions with a response. You know better.

Don't be so vindictive my friend. Just because I took an opposing/contrary view on some post somewhere that you didn't like doesn't mean you need to pick a fight with me in every topic. You may be one of my best friends, but I'm still allowed to disagree with you from time to time. All in good fun.

If you want to see a waste, look in the mirror. I'm having a great time playing to packed houses and making good money with a group of really great friends. Kid yourself all you want, but that ain't a waste.

My original bands have all had fans and did just fine. So no, not bitter at all. Try again.

You wouldn't know any of this because, well, it's that whole band-died-ass thing I spoke of before.

Oh come on man, saying that I wouldn't know what is a "good band" is incredibly juvenile even for you.

But sure, keep telling yourself that playing someone else's tired old rock is satisfying. Just take those old records off the shelf...

Um, I don't know how to break that to you but I didn't make this stuff up. You prove it all the time. Read your own posts sometime. All you ever say about any music being discussed is how much it sucks. You even say stuff sucks that you haven't even heard! Wake up and smell your own bullshit.

Moving on- does anyone else want to talk?

I would have thought that this statement clarified things regarding my feelings on corporations

Post Re: Corporate Rock still sucks and so do Corporate Venues
If you boys wouldn't mind turning down the flame throwers for a moment...

I'm really glad I didn't buy tickets for The Cranberries at The Brick. I have never seen them live and thought about checking them out until I saw the ticket price...$45!!!!!! BEFORE FEES!!!! The Cranberries other shows are mostly going for $39.50. For comparison's sake...I'm seeing Garbage in LA for $29.50....at The El Rey, a 700 capacity venue. The show sold out in less than 5 minutes. Both bands had similar levels of notoriety back in their days and both bands are returning after a long hiatus. So it's a little on The Cranberries and a little on The Brick for what I'd consider an exorbitant cost of a ticket. And FWIW, Garbage have always priced their shows on the more reasonable side, which is just another reason why I love them so. But I digress.

To be fair to The Brick, they are offering refunds for the JA show, including service fees and they have stated that they have "work to do". I am willing to reserve judgement on the place for the time being and see what they do to correct the issues encountered. However, even if they correct all the problems and turn the place into a fantastic concert venue, I would much, much, much, much, much rather see a show at First Ave, who they are supposedly competing against, mainly because First Ave is independent, gave Ticketbastard the big middle finger, is a great place to see a show (usually...I'm willing to overlook the sound issues at the 2008 Ladytron show and the 2011 KMFDM show because I've seen a lot of great shows there), and they are big supporters of local music.

Also note that it appears that The Brick is not using Ticketmaster, either. Or at least not on the front end. But they may as well be, given the service fees ($13 for 1 GA ticket to The Cranberries).

Ether called me almost immediately after I posted this and asked me what my problem was
I responded that I kinda figured that I went a bit too far
That was it and it was forgotten

As far as the venue goes
I have read severall posts where people said that, not only did they recieve refunds but it included CONVENIENCE CHARGES
Ever tried to get that from Ticket-bastard?
I still contend that corporate-think is corrosive to the arts but I have to conceed that no one ever refunds convenience/handling charges
So, at least they get points for that

Glad you guys were able to resolve things.

It will be VERY interesting to see what happens at the Manson show. Those of you who are going...post a report, please?

forgot where I read it but I saw that they moved several national shows (including a sold out one) because they were fixing the problems with sight lines and adding bathrooms
If so, then that is worthy of praise
It would be nice to see a corporate venue do something for the people
Who knows?
It might even catch on but I doubt it

Well that might be because their inclination toward music is as boring as some of the things that they actually have going in there. And though we have not much to hold over there, it would be interesting and tricky to know what justification could be given with their choice in music.

I reckon that this would again be one of those horrible experiences that are just salvaged just to get through.

Just curious...Has anyone actually been to The Brick since the Jane's show? Is it even open now? I see Manson got moved to Myth but that was in May.
